- "A lipid-lowering medication from the statin class that works by inhibiting HMG-CoA reductase, an enzyme responsible for cholesterol synthesis in the liver.
- It helps reduce elevated cholesterol, triglycerides, and LDL levels while increasing HDL cholesterol, thereby lowering the risk of cardiovascular events.
Indications:
- Treatment of primary hypercholesterolemia (heterozygous familial and non-familial).
- Treatment of mixed dyslipidemia (high cholesterol and triglycerides).
- Treatment of homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (adjunct to diet and other therapies).
- Reduction of cardiovascular risk (heart attack, stroke, revascularization) in patients with risk factors.
Main Active Ingredient:
- Rosuvastatin 10 mg.
Precautions:
- Contraindicated in patients with active liver disease or persistent, unexplained elevations of liver transaminases.
- Avoid use in pregnancy and breastfeeding.
- Use with caution in patients with renal impairment.
- May increase risk of muscle-related side effects (myopathy, rhabdomyolysis), especially at higher doses.
- Regular monitoring of liver function tests and lipid levels is recommended.
- Discontinue if muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness occurs with elevated creatine kinase.
- Use with caution in patients consuming large amounts of alcohol.
