- A transdermal patch formulated to deliver a controlled dose of a drug through the skin over 24 hours.
- It is prescribed to improve memory, thinking, and daily functioning in patients with Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s dementia.
Indications:
- Symptomatic treatment of mild to moderate dementia of the Alzheimer’s type.
- Symptomatic treatment of mild to moderate dementia associated with Parkinson’s disease.
Main Active Ingredient:
- Rivastigmine.
Precautions:
- Do not use if hypersensitive to rivastigmine, other carbamate derivatives, or any excipients.
- Only one patch should be worn at a time; remove the previous patch before applying a new one.
- Apply to clean, dry, intact skin; avoid irritated or red skin.
- Do not cut the patch.
- Use with caution in patients with hepatic impairment and in patients weighing less than 50 kg.
- Treatment should be initiated and supervised by a physician experienced in dementia management.
Side Effects:
- Nausea and vomiting.
- Diarrhea.
- Skin reactions at the application site (e.g., rash, redness).
- Dizziness or headache.
Drug-Drug Interactions:
- May interact with other cholinergic drugs, such as bethanechol or pilocarpine.
- May interact with anticholinergic medications, such as atropine or oxybutynin, which may reduce the
effectiveness of rivastigmine.
