- A prescription injectable medication used to improve blood sugar (glucose) control in adults with type 2 diabetes.
- It works to lower blood glucose levels. It provides long-acting basal insulin and enhances insulin secretion, and slows gastric emptying.
- Indications:
- Improves glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes when combined with diet and exercise.
- Suitable for patients not adequately controlled with basal insulin or GLP-1 receptor agonists alone.

- Insulin Glargine 100 U/mL
- Lixisenatide 33 mcg/mL
- Precautions:
- Monitor blood glucose levels regularly to avoid hypoglycemia.
- Do not use in patients with diabetic ketoacidosis.
- Inform your doctor if pregnant, breastfeeding, or having pancreas, heart, or gastrointestinal issues.
- Avoid use with other GLP-1 receptor agonists.
- Rotate injection sites to reduce lipodystrophy and localized skin reactions.
- Side Effects:
- Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar)
- Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea.
- Upper respiratory tract infection, headache.
- Severe allergic reactions (rare).
- Pancreatitis (rare).
- Heart failure risk if combined with TZDs.
- Drug-Drug Interactions:
- May interact with other antidiabetic medications (insulin, sulfonylureas)
- Oral contraceptives may have reduced efficacy if taken close to injection.
- Antibiotics or acetaminophen should be taken at least 1 hour before injection.
